Saturday, January 24th I checked in to Valley Medical. I could barely walk and the pain was excruciating. I thought I had slipped a disk or something like that. But no, it was much more and much worse. It seemed I had a bruise (I've been doing a lot of physical activity) along the nerve in my left leg. The bruise went septic and for the first three weeks I was in the hospital, I was out of my mind and fighting off the infection. For the next two months as I recovered, I found out that I have a bunch of friends. They helped me with the boredom of hospital stays. Flowers are a delight. I want to thank Chuck Serfece for helping fend off panic and fear. He is an amazing person. He helped my daughter cope with the hospital confusion. All the visits were so welcome. Joni and Garth brought me some paper and crayons (eight different colors) and some play dough so I could continue to do art. Friends visits were a joy.

I'm home now, since the middle of March. But it made me realize I had lost the first quarter of the year. Making art is very hard now. I can only sit for about twenty minutes before the pain is too much. Come to find out, I've got fluid (from the infection) build up along my spine. It's making it very difficult to walk and the only way to get better is surgery. So that's my life right now. Little art is getting done, but I'm getting better and will have the use of my legs soon.

We all get obstacles thrown in our way. I'll make the best of this.

I have been struggling with a chaotic life for way too long. In that time the worst things to happen to me have been when I was unable to come through on a dead line or deliver work I knew I could have done better. I've pledged myself to do better in 2014 and better the year after. I have a number of things I will clear up. That's my personal goal.

It's so nice to have a place to get work done and plan things out. The cats are happy and I'm looking forward to getting some work out to show for Old Olde Sküül. I'll have some new art to show off!

Now for something else. I've removed some work lately. One was an illustration done by an old associate of mine in which I did the coloring. I no longer help this artist and haven't done work for him for ethical reasons. The unfortunate thing is one of his client saw the piece and assumed I could help him get the artwork he was owed from another project. I know how this artist works and his methods are reprehensible. He owes a lot of people money and a lot more people art. That's the big reason I don't help him any more. I'm not the person to go through if any of you have a problem with this him.

If you get an email from my old yahoo account, don't open it.
I've had that account since 1998 and this is the first time it was compromised like this.
I'm so sorry for this.

I've been nominated for another Hugo Award for best fan artist. I won't know until August at WorldCon if I won a rocket. There are five nominees in each category. I'm thrilled to see Chris Garcia's name in four categories.

Worldcon www.renovationsf.org/ &nb… be held in Reno, Nevada this year. I'm hoping to see some of you there. I will be driving up in a big honk'n truck!
It's great to be a nominee this year for Hugo, best fan artist.  We will know come the awards ceremony, Saturday night. It's being broadcast live on the web. Getting to connect with loads of writers and artists I love, is the real win. And if I don't win? Well, I hear the Hugo Loser's party is the place to be!

See you all there!

I came in 10th for a Hugo award this year.

I got a great phone interview from a company close by. So I'm hopeful I don't have to seek that dream job in LA or parts further. Though, I will go where the opportunities are. I like working with teams. It's something I haven't enjoyed in a long time.

We are officially evicted. We are protesting it. I'm not going to lay back and take it. I'm still fighting. I'd rather put that energy into a project/job but it's hard to think with wolves snapping at your heals. Moving would be the best thing, but where and how?

I just got the news that I came in 10th at Aussiecon/Worldcon for Best Fan Artist this year. As I get older, few things give me butterflies, but hearing this sure did. I was so surprised. I know I've been recommended and thought that was honor enough. It makes me too nervous to think about actually wining one.

People are good to me.

This call out is meant for folks who live closer to the California Bay Area, San Jose.
I have something I would like to get rid of! It's a revolving darkroom door. It's plastic and will clean up real well. Listed brand new is around 700 dollars. I'm willing to give it away to someone who will give it a good home. Oh, and they have to come get it. Send me a message and let me know.

I know there are some folks out there who still do photography the old fashioned way. There is a picture of it on my Facebook account;

Wednesday is my birthday. In case I don't make it back to the site on time. Thanks for all the cool greetings, cards and hope filled wishes! I've been getting them since Saturday. What a hoot. I'm truly blessed. You've all been great. I don't understand the Llamas that well, but I like getting them. They are very cute. They make a cool present and makes me happy. I'll send some to you as I can.

Thanks bunches!

It expires tomorrow. I thought things would be a little better on the financial front. But after two years of underemployment, some things have to go. Plus I've been hit with a 400 dollar break repair on my car. There is no wiggle room. So I'll be down or reduced or whatever until things improve.

Good luck to us all.
